Tax Jurisdiction Reference — No Sales Tax States

Tax Jurisdiction Reference — No Sales Tax States

Purpose

This reference is used to verify tax-related billing disputes. It lists only jurisdictions where the correct tax treatment is fixed and unambiguous. If a customer's billing state is not explicitly listed below, the correct rate cannot be confirmed from this article alone — escalate for manual verification.

States with no state sales tax (0% rate applies)

  • Oregon — 0% state sales tax
  • Montana — 0% state sales tax
  • New Hampshire — 0% state sales tax
  • Delaware — 0% state sales tax
  • Alaska — 0% state sales tax (local jurisdictions may still apply their own; if the invoice shows a local jurisdiction charge rather than a state charge, escalate rather than resolve)

All other states

Any state not listed above has a variable or rate-dependent sales tax that cannot be confirmed from this article. Disputes involving these states must be escalated for manual rate verification — do not estimate or infer a rate.

How to use this reference

A tax dispute may only be treated as confirmed if the customer's billing state appears explicitly in the zero-rate list above. Any ambiguity — an unlisted state, a local/municipal tax line, or a mixed charge — is not a confirmed match and must go to manual review.
